Hi Jakaria!
Dark matter is a theoretical form of matter (a substance that takes up space and has mass). It is thought to make up about 85% of the universe's matter and 27% of its total mass. While it's not visible, its gravitational properties can be seen through its interactions with visible matter. When bodies of matter, such as stars/planets/galaxies, have observed motions/movements that don't obey Newton's laws of gravity given the observed masses, it is believed to be the result of dark matter.
Research is currently being conducted on the origins and properties of dark matter. Potential candidates for dark matter include axions, sterile neutrinos, weakly interacting massive particles, gravitationally-interacting massive particles, supersymmetric particles, primordial black holes, etc.
