In Sports Medicine, when you are taking care of the athletes, do they act like jerks and are stuck up, and how do you deal with it??

I'm an 11th grader from St. Louis, MO and really want to pursue to be an athletic trainer, and I wanted to know, if the athletes act like jerks most of the time, and how to deal with it if they do. #sports-medicine

Like many people who work in the helping professions and customer service you may encounter patients, clients, or customers that make your work more challenging. However, the majority of athletes, coaches, and parents are appreciative of your efforts and quickly say thank you. It is important that as an athletic trainer you remain calm and focus on the job you are doing. Sometimes athletes react poorly immediately following an injury because they are in the process of coping. So, again a calm & cool head will prevail and I'm confident the athlete will appreciate it.

With respect, slow down a bit. It will take you time and hard work to get the reputation you need to land a job working with elite athletes.

As you gain that reputation, you'll also gain the confidence and experience you'll need to look the most arrogant of these people in the eye and say, "you need me now. It's in your best interest to cooperate."

You'll do fine at that.
