I'm unsure what to do with my life

I'm in my first year of university in the UK and I'm doing Adult Nursing. I'm more than halfway done. But, the thing is, my head and heart are not into it. It bores me and does not interest me in the least. In fact, if I force myself to continue it, I'm pretty sure I'll end up jumping off a building or something. My mother hopes for me to be successful, she's actually the one who encouraged me to go for Nursing. However, now that I want out, whenever I ask her or talk to her about leaving the course, she tells me to go ahead and do what I want with my life as long as I'm successful (but in a douchey, degrading, frustrated manner). If I quit university now, I would have to wait a whole year to reenter university or restart, which I'm not very keen on.
I've been seriously thinking about going back to Sixth Form and taking a BTEC course for film production because I'm really interested in it. But, even if it does lead me to university and stuff, my future is still not stable and I'm really anxious about that. Also, my mom wants me to have a stable career too. I've also been researching other courses to take such as ODP, Nursery School Teacher and other stable jobs I can think of.

So, please give me advice on what I should do. #teacher #nursing #healthcare #university #film #undecided

Nobody is really sure of what to do with their lives honestly, so don’t worry you are not alone but what it is important for now is to set at least one goal in a timeline, do an assessment of what you have now and what you would like to have in your future life. It could be simple things for example a destination you want to go to at a certain time and from there go backward to today and answer this question, what can I do today that would help me get to that destination in that certain time and one thing will lead to another, it is not urgent to know what to do with your life but it is urgent to do something you love, like or want to do starting now, one step at a time.I personnaly wanted to be part of the film production feild but after internshiping in it it wasn't what I imagined so I moved to the next opportunity, don't be afaid to change things up until you find what you love but sit down and set big goals have a big picture, the rest will follow with trainings and practice.

As I am sure you have heard, that the older you get, the faster time will pass you by, and the faster that time goes by, the more you loose out on how precious your life really is. Basically you are doing what you need to do to survive, a career in Nursing will always be in demand, the healthcare industry is a billion dollar business. Since you are halfway through, you can either stick through work as a Nurse and pursue another degree in another career field. Or you can stop altogether and choose another career field. Always remember to follow your heart and not the herd

Hope this helps
Good luck to you

Hey there,

I would highly recommend giving it some time and not quit this early. I believe that you will eventually know for sure what you want to do with your life if you give it more thinking.

Film production sure sounds exciting. But what if you quit your studies and don't enjoy the film production that much ?. I would highly recommend doing a sort of training in this field which will allow you to be fully onboard with your next decision.

Best of luck :)

I'm 70 and I'm still unsure.

Seriously, though, do what makes you feel spectacularly glad you're doing it. Do the thing you love to bore your friends by telling them about it.

Don't be afraid to change your mind from time to time. You will.

Finding your passion is not unlike finding the person you want to grow old with. It's all about the long game.

Don't beat yourself up over this. It takes time. Follow your own instincts - even if they're sometimes wrong. If you're not failing, you're not trying hard enough.

And try not to do something just because someone who isn't you says it's a good idea.
