I recommend finding associations or organizations that are affiliated with your area of study. Many of these professional orgs will have job postings in the area of specialty, sometimes even internships will be posted. Also, I worked with a College professor in my field to land an internship, which led to my first job out of college.

John’s Answer

If you want a part time job at the school talk to councilor or department heads. Otherwise, Indeed.com, linkedin.com, employment agencies, some teachers may have connections, other students that have been in that school for a while.

Good luck!

Anita’s Answer

Hi Joanne. That’s a great question. One of the very first places I would recommend would be the staff at your high school. You would be surprised at who and what your teachers and counselors know. Secondly, get involved with things that you enjoy on college campus. Meet likeminded people and leaders who will have a vested interest in helping you grow and be your best.

Lindsay’s Answer

Social media, emails, and phone calls. This only really helps if you know what field you want to go into, but for me, I would come across pages of students or professionals in the field I was looking into. I would direct message them on IG if they had a public social media presence or I would look them up on LinkedIn/Google to find their emails and ask if it was okay that I inquire about their work. Additionally, I would look for offices and call them to see if I could connect with some of their employees or if I could shadow them! This works! If you don't know what field you want to do, I'd say talk to your high school academic advisor and see what they have to say. You can also talk to your friends and see if they know anyone who is in a field you're interested in so you can connect with them.
