Katelyn’s Answer

Top schools look for often the best in specific areas and those who can help add something to their community. This means top grades and involvement in extracurriculars not limited to volunteering, jobs, sports, and starting/having large roles in non-profits, can be helpful to set yourself apart. You have time to both excel in your school work and choose to be involved in activities related to what you may want to study in school.

One thing I would note since you mention Ivy League: these schools often are very competitive and require a lot of focus. Keep this in mind and be sure you have checks in place so you can manage the workload, etc. You also want to enjoy your schooling years.

It's important to be both well-rounded but specialized if you are looking to study a specific topic already. That said, your even thinking about this shows you are planning well.

You should also make sure you are able to effectively portray your story and be authentic to who you are. Your personal statement/essays can help distinguish you and set you apart from other candidates in the evaluation process. Good luck!

Samar’s Answer

Ivy League schools require a combination of skills:
1. Academics - This goes without saying and good grades throughout high school is important.
One should also look at the SAT/ACT requirements as they are constantly changing. You can do a search by school name and find out what the translates to. usually, it also depends on your area of interest.
2. Extra Curricular: It helps if one excels in some unique skill. It could be music, sports or anything unique.
3. Letters of recommendations from teachers.
4. Affordability: Depending on school, one can also look at different scholarships or aid packages.

Good Luck !

Hi Prapti!

You're going to need to make great grades. Also you'll want to start practicing the SAT test early! I would test each year!

Those are my two suggestions!

Good luck!
