To me it really depends on how you think and understand data. If you are more of a business flow / analytic person the Business degree might be better way. However if you have the mind set of a developer, and are good with Computer Science then that might be the way to go. There is a need in both areas, so pick the one you feel you will do better with, at least to start.

My advise that you will have more options if you take the path of computer science cyber security vs business cyber security. Both will be helpful but it you have a strong technical foundation your options will be greater. If you do not want to go the technical route and are committed to a business approach, mabye MBA long term in your horizon you could still do the business cyber security as more companies are turning this into a board room conversation.

This field is very hot so go for it if you like it.

Jeff’s Answer

Hi, Ariel!

Either option would be an excellent choice since cyber security is such an incredibly hot, in-demand career. Since it is such a technical skill, I would recommend the computer science degree. However, for your elective classes, I would recommend taking all the business classes you can take. Even better, business minor. That rounds out your education.

Best of luck and absolutely go for it!

Jeff

It depends on what you are interested in and what you are most passionate about. If finances aren't an immediate concern, you will be best served doing what you thoroughly enjoy doing. Trust me - you do not want to end up in a role you hate just because it pays 40k more a year.....not worth your contentment in life or happiness.

I suspect you would have to go down to the class level, I suspect some of the classes will be in both Schools. In (Cyber) Security, you have the management path, technical path, or a rare path of both, sometimes call converged.  Key is constant education, certification, professional networking and always understanding the your top 1-2 things you are protecting for your audience.

If you have an interest in the technical side of things, the Computer Science degree will give you more options down the road. Comp Sci will give you a foundation to understand the technical issues you'll run into in CyberSecurity and you can always grow into management and leadership from there. It's always nice to talk to leaders who really grasp the technical side of the discussion.
