There is no need to be concerned with a specialty at this early stage. Focus on doing well and understanding the profession as a whole, to make sure that it is a good fit.

Candace’s Answer

I agree with Ms. Felix. You have time to decide on a specialty. Work hard and do your best in high school and college but also take time to have some fun on your journey. Once you get in medical school, your focus will be on studying and preparing for a career in medicine. Wishing you much success!

Get good grades and high MCAT score. Go to class. Plan to spend 2-3 hours studying for every hour of lecture. Attend your professor's office hours and any TA review sessions. If there is a test bank, use that as a study tool to understand what your professor wants you to focus on for the test.

During college study for and complete the MCAT. Devote an entire summer to studying for the MCAT and consider paying for a prep course if you can afford it.

It was about $140 and he achieved his goal score.

The 3rd and 4th years of medical school are in the clinic or Hospital Ward. You rotate between the major Specialties in medicine. During the fourth year, you choose a specialty . You may do away rotations in that specialty in the different cities that you plan on applying.
