What non-research careers do you recommend for linguistics majors?
I'm currently studying English and Linguistics and hear a lot about the research aspect of linguistics studies. I am curious how to apply linguistics to careers that involve working with people. #teaching #linguistics #people

Hi there! I think the skills from this major can be adapted to multiple careers, therefore you will have the freedom to choose what you enjoy most. I am thinking about the following domains:
✔️ Human Resources
I am starting with this one because I can give you a personal example. In software development companies, there are programmers but there are also a lot of people hired in the HR department. They tackle employee documents, hiring processes, interviews, and finding suitable people to hire. I believe knowing many languages, for instance, is an advantage in this career.
✔️ Speech and language therapy
Would you like to help people/children with their speech problems?
✔️ PR, marketing, communication of all sorts
If you want to manage marketing aspects of a company, or would like to consult with costumers
✔️ Teacher
If you think you would enjoy it :)
These careers all involve working with people and lots of communication.
Hope this gives you a head start and good luck! <3
Research more careers online. I used key terms like "communication careers" to find more career examples.

Linguists are in more and more demand these days, especially in the technology and legal areas.
Analyzing massive amounts of data, in different languages but also in English, is an up-and-coming field.
Big data, data science, computational linguistics, forensic linguistics, e-discovery, social media, etc, are all huge fields that need linguistic expertise.
There is also a lot of money in these areas, by the way ;-)
