Gloria’s Answer
Hi Grace,
I have never been a chef, however, I believe that all careers have a similar track. One of these elements is practice, as indicated by Samantha.
The other element that I would offer is this - what do you want to do as a chef? Are you delighted by the thought of making a three-course meal or do you see yourself making incredible desserts? Do you want to create new and exciting creations or be really good at a type of food (such as seafood in all its forms)? I would start first by thinking about how you see yourself using the gift of being a good cook. I think of everything from being a Michelin Star chef to owning a food truck that specializes in something very specific. At the heart of it, your ideal career should reflect who you want to be in the role of chef.

Todd’s Answer
Hello Grace, besides the need for passion of great foods you need to be artistic, dedicated to the profession, patience with people from all walks of life and the knowledge of not recipes, that will come and you will learn them, but the knowledge of the many different techniques of cooking from around the world, mostly of the proteins you will prepare. And last but not least the willingness to adapt to any kitchen, not two run the same way unless you work in a corporate setting. Most of all though, have fun with what your doing and treat your charges as you want to be treated. Chef Ramsey is really not as he appears on Hell’s Kitchen. Best of luck in your endeavors!
Work as a prep first
