Why should I consider going into a specific field of study instead of a general one, or vise-versa?
I have been considering majoring in biology for a while but also the idea or marine biology or zoology intrigues me. Are you more likely to get IP"stuck" in a career in a specific field or to not have the specific experience required for interesting jobs if you go for a more general degree? #biology #general #marine-biology #zoology

Hi Theresa! Excellent question!
I had this same exact question when I was first going into college as well. I think the best answer is that, it really just depends. I've known of students who do indeed get "stuck" in majors and have trouble moving into other disciplines or jobs that are a bit outside of their realm and I've known students who majored in quite weird majors but were able to compete well enough with other students for jobs or research positions in a quite different field. I think it comes down to personal talent and how much you really believe you want to go for that major. If you're convinced you want to do that specific major, go all for it. If you have any inhibitions, take the general degree and you can still transfer in since most of the courses will be relevant in that specific major.
I hope that answers your question! Good luck!
