If you are interested but not sure where to focus or what really intriguing you, you probably need to explore further by expanding circle of your knowledge and social contacts.
Assuming that you have basic classroom foundations covered, it may be good for you to jump into state-of-art technology and trends by joining related github/discord/reddit. Join the circle and find the right level to start there and explore. Technology is changing fast, so you can jump to front line if you have the appetite. You may find that you are lack of certain basic knowledge/skills, then you can pick up what is missed. Interact with community and experiment, it is the best way to learn and advance.

Hello Jason,
I am happy to share same interest as you. My interest in computers started at the age of 17 (1992) and it continues till date (2021).
There are two areas you can explore and find your interest. First is building better computers. Second is building applications and solving world problems using computers. The area of interest will help you narrow your focus.
Building better computers - If you choose this path, you can explore world of computer architecture, electronics, operating system, cloud computing, networks, etc. These will make faster and cheaper compute available to the world. Companies like Dell Technologies, Intel, Amazon, Microsoft, AMD, NVDIA are good to follow.
Building applications to solve world problems - Here, you can look at domain or industry. For example, telecommunication, Internet, Industrial automation, supply-chain, business process automation, social networks and social engineering projects. In addition, you can specialize in areas like machine learning, blockchain, graphs, IoT, etc. You could follow companies like Google, Facebook, Amazon.

That's great that you have a passion for computers and technology in general. The best way to find what you might be interested in is to read about the key trends that are happening in the world. I would recommend the book "The Future is Faster Than You Think" by Peter Diamandis as he helps you to understand how technology is converging to create new opportunities for industries (e.g. flying cars) and other areas of growth. Go for it!

Hello Jason,
Computer science tends to be the norm for students who want to go into coding. But really it depends on the type of coding you prefer. There is cybersecurity, User interface, and even things like social media coding vs websites vs app development vs video game creation, and so on.
Maybe talk to some of your computer teachers, look online for mentors, and just try different things until you can come to the conclusion of what you enjoy doing the most.
You may also want to look up local hackathons, coding boot camps, and coding conferences to attend to and be able to meet future mentors.
The main thing is you want to try and figure out what you like and don't like as specifically as possible. I.e. you like to work alone vs with a 1 person, vs a group. You like to code in Python specifically. Once you make an exhaustive list of things, it will help makes things more clear. Then you can talk to others in the field and be like "I love X,Y,Z but don't enjoy A,B,C" Is there something you would suggest I look into?
I hope that helps.
