Hi there I think that's a great question. I think it mainly depends on what type of chef you want to be. There are some really nice hotels that have great restaurants as well as banquet/catering facilities. There are some hotels that don't focus on quality of their food outlets but rather quantity. So it just depends on which direction you want to go in. Personally I like to work for places that focus on quality!

Hi Gabriela, I recommend you try to shadow or spend time in a hotel kitchen to see if you enjoy that environment. My friends who worked at a hotel did mostly catering for events because the on-site restaurants hire their own chefs. They didn't enjoy the repeated menus but also the stress of large groups being served at the same time. Perhaps you can look at a local restaurant which doesn't have the hotel fast pace or requires experience. Most small local restaurants will train you so I suggest you start there especially asking a restaurant you go to frequently by asking the Manager or owner. Good luck, Sherman

I would recommend going to a culinary school through the community college in your area and working part time in a hotel. The wage is minimum starting anywhere. But depending on the Executive Chef the experience can be fantastic! Review the Chef through LinkedIn to learn his/ her experience level. You will be learning there style of cooking cuisines.
