#counselor

Thank you comment icon Hi Maddy, Here're a couple of other links to look at on counseling careers: https://www.psychologyschoolguide.net/counseling-careers/ https://careersinpsychology.org/starting-a-career-in-counseling/ For salaries, you can also go to glassdoor and do searches on different counselor jobs, once you have narrowed down what types of counseling you might be interested in. Also speak to your counselors in high school. They've been through different programs to be high school counselors, and can guide you as well. All the best as you look for the right career fit in your life. Deepak Chadaga

Each state is a little different, and each position is a little different. Here are some general guidelines:
Duties: typically completing assessments and documentation (progress notes, treatment plans, discharge summaries), therapy, liaising with community programs, updating relevant members of a care team (medical, social services, probation, etc.)
Hours: usually 9-5 type hours, but some agencies and companies might require evenings and/or weekends. If you work in a residential or inpatient setting, you may be on-call for evenings and/or weekends as well.
Working Conditions: usually similar to most office settings. You will typically have a private office you see clients in. I have worked in a medical clinic where I had a desk near medical providers and shared a patient room with other providers to see clients in.
Salary Range: highly dependent on experience, licensing, agency, specialty, etc. Entry level positions are typically going to start under $50,000 and can grow with experience. There is a huge need for providers, so some companies are offering signing bonuses.

Brandon’s Answer

There is not an exact answer to this question, because it varies on a variety of factors like what kind of counselor you are trying to be, location that you are trying to work, among other variables that would need to be included. Because I do not know the specific information, it would be hard to answer this question.

I added a link below that leads to a website that talks about different counselor jobs, what they entail, and salary info. Hope this helps!
