For strength, buildings are often made using steel-reinforced concrete - that's concrete with steel reinforcing bars (commonly called "rebar") inside, often in a grid structure. The steel rebars are positioned into the grid and fastened together by a steelfixer, then concrete is poured in around the rebar.
