Hi Justin,
Thanks for the question. Marketing is an interesting subject. There is a misconception that marketing is planning events, designing a logo, or coming up with a catchy tagline. I would agree, some marketing roles include those tasks but a majority of marketing roles require an understanding of analytics and conducting research.
If you are interested in a marketing field I recommend taking a college course such as intro to marketing to help you decide if it is the right career for you.
Thanks,
Debanie

Marketing is intertwined with all aspects of a business. it includes a deep knowledge of the industry your firm operates within (global demographic understanding-market size, business models, competition, etc.), a focus upon the customers and their needs (sales analysis-research), the pricing of your products (finance), what software or hardware configurations are required (engineering), how your products are depicted (advertising), how products are maintained/warrantied (service), the reliability of your products (manufacturing & engineering), future customer needs (research), contracts, intellectual property protection (legal), and much more.
It offers keen insight into all aspects of a successful business as well as the opportunity to grow into the executive ranks of a company.

I like the question. You should choose marketing if you like to tell stories. Marketing is communications. Internal marketing informs the company employees about activities and important information plus helps the employees feel excited about the company does. External marketing informs clients and new clients about what the company does and how it will help them. If you like to be the one getting people excited about what they do then choose marketing.
