I am not an expert in culinary. I can only share my view on how I would view a restaurant or the chef would be great.
Firstly, you may learn to the basic and fundamentals of cooking, e.g. different kind of cutting, cooking, skill, different kinds of ingredients. etc. You can learn from the cooking schools. The important is practice all the skills.
When you prepare the food for the customers, you should do with your heart and pay attention to every steps. No shortcut should be taken. The customers can taste it.
You can enhance your knowledge from time to time. There may have new techniques, cooking methods, etc appears from time to time.
Keep the creativity. Try to create some new dishes from time to time and test it. It may not easy. But, this is always good to give your challenge and passion on food.
Hope this helps! Good luck!

This is a really good question!
So I previously was in the culinary industry for about 7years+ and learned that your best tool is your basic knowledge of knife skills, basic sauces, and cooking techniques. The reason I feel this is because everything starts with something that is some kind of basic culinary knowledge. But that's when you can make it your own.
Play with flavors and styles but also make sure to ALWAYS taste the dish throughout because one wrong seasoning or a little too much can change the whole direction of the dish. Remember the longer seasonings can sit in your dish the more the flavor of most of them can marry into it and either add richness or boldness to the dish.
Don't be afraid to try new things, especially on friends and family because they will (hopefully) be honest and give you some good feedback so that you can take that and change it up if need be!
Lastly, I always say, love what you do and do it with love! It will truly show in your dishes, and be proud of your creations!!
Good luck!

There is a whole list of skills that need to be improved upon in a culinary career.
But when I'm reviewing or hiring, Knife skills are at the top of the list.
It shows attention to detail
The ability to be safe
And over time speed will pick up, definitely a plus in any kitchen.
Also learn HAACP & Cooking temps. These combined will make you an asset in any kitchen.
