Victoria’s Answer

I would add that Athletic Trainers can work in all different kinds of settings- most commonly they work with sports teams, but are also able to work in industrial settings, doctors’ offices, sales, research, etc.
I’m not sure about personal trainers, but Athletic Trainers will have continuing education requirements at both a state and national level to maintain their certification and licensing.

Dustin’s Answer

Athletic training and personal training are two completely different professions.

Athletic trainers focus on the medical side of sports including emergency response, medical treatment of injury, and rehabilitation. To be an athletic trainer you will need to compete your masters in atheltic training from a CAATE accredited program and pass your BOC exam. Please see the NATA website for more details (nata.org)

Personal trainers focus on physical advancement of their clients. This is usually done by being a personal trainer or a strength coach (a strength coach will work more closely with atheltes). I am not sure on the requirements for a personal trainer, but to be a strength coach you will need to pass your CSCS exam, please see the ACSM for more info (acsm.org)

Rebecca’s Answer

If you would like to be a be train up someone, you can consider to be a coach of a particular sports, sports teacher, personal trainer in fitness centre, etc.
However, all of these careers would need to have achieve the required qualifications.
Firstly, you could explore which one you are interested to do. You could speak to someone who are working in the career. You can talk to your sports teacher in school or there is designated coach of different sports in school, etc. Also, you can seek advice from your career counselor in school.
After you have shortlisted 1-2 careers, you can find out what qualification is required. Then, you can identify the relevant subjects or courses in the college or academic qualifications.
Hope this helps! Good Luck!

Katie’s Answer

Dustin explains it very well in a short and simple answer. Athletic Trainer’s are not personal trainers and are completely different careers. If you are looking for more of the medical side while also working with sports you can look into Athletic Training. Based upon the question it seems like you are more describing personal training or a strength and conditioning coach. Personal training is going to be more one-on-one and a strength and conditioning coach is usually hired for a certain team and you are working with that specific team or school.
