Hello Cassandra,
A lot of people think that graphic design as the name implies is all about designing news papers and magazines but it is way further than the truth. Graphic design is in everything we see around us such as the clothes we wear, the advertisement on TV and just to name a few. Graphic design is very broad area with even so many branches such as motion graphics is also another form of graphic design if you are interested in making visual effects for movies. There are so many opportunities in that field so don't let the name make you limit yourself in doing it. You want to go into that field go for it. Hope that answers your question. Thanks

There are LOTS of ways to work in graphic design. Web, email, social posts (basically everything you see on your phone) was designed by someone. Every logo you see on TV, on clothing, on restaurants, movies - these all have a design team behind them. The great thing about studying graphic design, is that you can start with the basics, then design later learn more about the specific focus you are most interested in. These could be:

- motion graphics
- logo design and corporate identity
- package design (anything being sold in a box or bag)
- web design
- environmental design (ever followed signs in a museum or a library? these were all designed)

There is no end to your options. If you love being creative, it's a great career!

Hi Cassandra,

Graphic design is one of those wonderful jobs that where you work can vary widely. While graphic design is often thought of for print, like magazines, graphic design is happening all around you in a number of ways. There is at least one graphic designer who worked on the creation of the web site that you are in right now. Marketing uses print media but also digital media that needs the artistic and technical talent of graphic designers. When I think of the opening elements of a movie, with text and movement, especially digital, I know that a graphic designer was there. Even animators can begin their work lives with a foundation in graphic design. Your challenge is really around - how do you want to use your graphic design talents?
