What do I need to do to become a videogame animator
I am a Freshman and have a good understanding on videogame designing, however; I want to know what to do on how to make cut scenes, movement and attacking animations, ect. I know how to code it into the game just don't know if I should take animation, 3d-animation or something else

Hello Brandon,
If your college has a program or a club, get involved in it somehow. I went to a university that offered it as a major. See if they have that for you. If not, find a program locally or even online where you can learn. Network and keep learning. With networking, you’ll find a way to break into the field.

Hi Brandon,
I'm not an expert in this, so I hope someone answers with a more detailed response, but I would recommend that you go look at either Unity or the Unreal engine. These are game engines that will allow you to do the things that you were talking about (out of the two, Unity seems to be more favored by indie game studios, so maybe start on that?). I would suggest that you start learning Unity through their learning platform (https://learn.unity.com), which will help you learn the Unity game engine, and get you started on videogame design.
I wish you the best of luck Brandon, and I hope you find this information helpful!

Hi Brandon! On the practice side of this question, I would say practicing animating physical actions often found in games is important like walk cycles, run cycles jumping attack animations. I also think it's important to learn how to properly transition one animation into another. Also learning how to do creature animation can definitely give you an edge in getting hired!
