I would recommend that you spend some time talking to nurses (as they are a major part of the team) and following a nurse midwife. You can also go to the American College of Nurse-Midwifes web page for information on schooling, places they work, etc (https://www.midwife.org/). It is great you're asking as many people think that being a midwife is just "catching babies", whereas it's so much more. Midwife means "with women" and it's truly with women for a lifetime. This is from the first gyn exam, to contraception, to fertility, to pregnancy, birth and postpartum, to menopause, and all that entails. Good luck.

I recommend shadowing a nurse midwife for at least a few days. Pay attention to the role that individual plays as part of the team. Take note of the other personnel on the team. The lead nurse may be a great resource as you develop new questions.
Thank you so much!
