What can I do to become a Model ?

Ever since COVID 19 hit, I had low confidence + motivation to achieve my dreams & when I wanted to start planning on what i wanted to do. I'm lost on when to start , like wanting to be a Graphic Illustrator Artist, Freelance Artist and Makeup Artist and I had so much on my mind it couldn't have the motivation and the inspiration to do it until I found my true passion in modeling. Back in High School, High School of Fashion Industries, I wanted to join a modeling club but unfortunately, i have to be a Senior in order to join the modeling club and when I was a Senior, COVID had hit and our school had the students to work remote. They would be virtual meetings of the modeling club but the head of the Modeling Club had stopped it and I felt like we barely gotten information about modeling at all. What steps should I start taking as my first start of modeling ?

I would be careful about local model search programs. They tend to be misleading and ask for a lot of money from you. They make it sound like you will be doing professional modeling work very quickly, but mostly you pay them to be in local fashion shows.

Also, I would be careful about going anywhere alone with a photographer or agent. Most people have good intentions, but not all.

I agree with Jesse's response above, find an established and reputable agency. They may have information on their website and recommendations for reputable photographers for a set of professional photos.

It might be a good idea to create a small website or social media site where you can begin to post your photos. Again, this will put you in the public eye and you will have to be careful of any solicitations to work with you that you receive. Young people who want to get into acting, modeling, music and the like are open targets for scam artists and more. To keep yourself safe, always post where you are clothed, but not in lingerie or anything to revealing or suggestive. I have found this link from Ford modeling agency. They are a huge agency that has been in business for many years. Please read the content of this page: https://fordmodels.com/get-scouted.

A number of years ago, a friend of mine started the path for modeling. I can't remember exactly how she first interacted with an agent, but she ended up going to a number of photo shoots and introductory meetings with the modeling agency Wilhelmina. Their website has the ability for people to apply to be a model and the process involved my friend going to numerous department and fashion stores to try on clothes and outfits to send to the agency. In addition, a number of trips were taken to New York, where the company is partially based, to model and audition in person. And while I can't speak on behalf of others, I do know my friend decided to go a different direction with her career for personal reasons so she didn't end up becoming a part-time or full-time model. But the first step she took was an application and connecting with an agency for additional information. I hope others can provide more insight!

I think the most important thing would be working on your portfolio and just putting yourself out there for agencies. I also recommend doing research on agencies so you are not going in circles and end up being tricked into something you didn't want to sign up for. Hope this helps!
Thank you comment icon Thank you so much for the advice. I know that there's many agencies around New York and around the state and I know it'll be a bit difficult to find a good agency that would be able to help me get into more modeling opportunities and building my profolio in order to have more agencies reaching out for me because there's some agencies that will scam people from actually wanting to become a model and I haven't find a good one yet. Even when I do, they charge either a fee to do photoshoots or to work with the agency for about $200 - $300 Shakira
