Great Question - I highly recommend to complete the following to connect with Big Four individuals:
1. Create a strong LinkedIn profile. Have a strong profile where you have all information filled out, including an image, detailed information regarding past employers if applicable, and state your current education, etc.
2. Connect with individuals! Send individuals a connection request - if you don't know the person that is okay! You can sometimes add a small description and make sure to add a brief explanation along with it. Ex. Hello X, I am very interested in the work you do and would love to know more about the company that you currently work for. Would it be fine to connect in order to ask you some additional questions?

While this can be difficult at times, it is something that I highly encourage individuals to do since individuals are always more than happy to assist you with your career. Whenever I had questions about a specific company or job, I would reach out to an individual and ask them directly if possible.

3. If you are still in a college/University, I recommend you go out and explore the different networking opportunities that the school has to offer such as: Career Fairs, Networking events, field trips to employers, "open house" days where individuals can go to a company to learn more about it. While I am not sure if these things are available in all schools, these are things that I had available during my college years in order to connect with professionals in my area of interest.

4. If you have a job, always take pride in what you do! Many individuals will notice your hard work and will start "small talk" and one small discussion can lead to a larger discussion or even career opportunity. I used to work at a gym signing in individuals and mopping floors. Some as simple as cleaning the gym equipment allowed me to meet many great professionals of all different occupations that helped me become the professional I am today.

Let me know if you have any questions or concerns. Thanks!

Hi Paul,

I also would definitely recommend creating a strong Linkedin profile to reach out to professionals at the big three consulting firms. Moreover, if you are interested in working at one of the big three, I would recommend reaching out to the recruiters for each firm and to really focus on building a solid, consistent relationship with them - this will be valuable come recruiting season. Lastly, you can reach out to alumni from your university who work at the big three consulting firms to get their perspective on recruiting, tips and tricks for resumes, advice on different groups within consulting, and maybe even someone to put in a good word for you when it comes time to apply.

Hope this helps!

Hi Paul,

In-short:
I would recommend you to create a solid Linkedin profile and reach out to people who work in the big three consulting firms of your choices.

However, you need a specific motivation to connect with them and build the 'real' interaction with them.
Let's say you want to work 'like' them in the future, answer the initials questions: "in which field?", "why this field?" or maybe "why not the rest?".
Finding your interest is the top priority before connecting with them. Because in the end, this will create a human relationship that would need honesty and sincerity (And you care about the goal in the end, whether it fits your interest or not).

Let me know if you have more questions!

Best of luck!

Hi Paul, additionally to the other responses (creating a strong LinkedIn profile and reach out to individuals over LinkedIn that are within your network/from your university or school etc.) I recommend to follow the consulting firms, that you are interested in, on all social media channels to be up to date regarding the latest events that they offer. Often, they organize networking events for students for which you can apply and that is a great opportunity to speak with consultants from the firms directly.

This was my personal way into consulting; I signed up for a Christmas event to get to know one of the MBB firms, got invited and then ended up doing an internship and even started to work there!

So watch out for these events and sign up. Best of luck!

Start by visiting your college's career office to discover if they have any connections with these top-tier firms. Don't forget to investigate if any of our alumni have worked or are currently working at a big 4 firm. Reach out to them, ask about their experiences, and request insights into their journey to these prestigious positions. Their stories could provide valuable guidance for your own path.

Zach’s Answer

Hi Paul,

I would recommend attending workshops that the firms put on first to learn about the positions and the recruiting process. Next, I would recommend reaching out to the recruiters at each firm and foster a relationship with them as they will help you through the process. Dive deep into the role descriptions and consulting practices and see what best suits you and your experience. Create a strong Linkedin profile and reach out to connections at these firms to find out more about their daily work. This will help you craft the "why this firm" response. Additionally, these connections may even refer you to the firm. Hope this helps, good luck!

Hi Paul,

I would recommend creating a strong Linkedin profile to reach out to professionals at the big three consulting firms, with a resume attached and concise descriptions on your skills. I would also recommend that you reach out to some of the recruiters for each firm and to really focus on building a solid, consistent relationship with them. If you are currently in school, reach out to your career coach or someone in a similar role, most times these folks have contacts for certain firms. I would also recommend attending business functions where these companies come for a visit and talk to classes. The most important thing is to have a solid brand for yourself with relevant skills needed in the industry and an attitude of "I deserve to work here because xyz" without being arrogant about it. Stay humble but still put yourself out there as a quality candidate.

Have a great day!
