Do you need a recommendation for the job you plan to get or get a job?

When I finish training for my career, for example Culinary Art. I need to work immediately or wait.

While having a recommendation for a job CAN help, you don't necessarily need one in order to get a job. With a job recommendation, it is just like saying that somebody else is vouching for you to be employed, whether because they know you personally, working skills, etc. Think of it like having an added bonus to get an interview for the position. Even with the recommendation, you will still need to do all of the work yourself to convince the person and/or company that you are fit for the position. All because you have a recommendation doesn't mean much unless you can show that you are a good fit for the job.

What really helps with getting a job would be experience of some kind that would be helpful in the field you want to work in. What employers really like to see are results of what you can accomplish.

Hello Karla, what a great question. I dose help to have a recommendation from your Pastor or a form teacher, but it is not required. Here are somethings you can do to help yourself, update your contact list with the names of anyone favorable you have their contact information. If you have any classes related to the job you're trying to get, ask your teacher to write you a letter of recommendation. Best of luck.

Terri’s Answer

I agree with Brandon, recommendations are nice to have but not required. Employers are looking for someone with skills, someone with an attitude that fits the team, and/or that someone that is willing to learn.

Eugene’s Answer

Recommendations will never hurt and they often give you a much better shot at the job. BUT, as others have stated, they are not necessary. Especially early in your career, you will need to start from scratch, which means just hustling and trying to get a solid first job.

In other words, don't wait. If you can work, go work.
