Consulting Case Question - College Junior

Hi there! My names Cyon and I'm a rising college junior at FAMU. I wanted to ask what resources are available for generating case experience for consulting in the finance area as well as Deals and Mergers and Acquisitions?

Thank you comment icon Good question - there are tons of online resources available. I found Victor Cheng's website and videos super useful when prepping - lots of areas you can focus on. Good luck! Julia Donnelly

Hi there, as someone who has gone through case studies and interview processes, I would recommend:

1. Management Consulted
2. Rocket Blocks
3. Case Coach
4. Youtube Case Study Channels (free)

Search on any of these resources and you'll find videos and libraries of the types of questions you're looking to study for, including Finance, Deals, M&As, etc. There are free contents so make sure to use all of that but to unlock everything you may need to sign up for an account so check with your college to see if there are any license being offered on these resources, or maybe there are more that your college offers. Good luck!

Hi Cyon,

Hope you are doing well!

I would recommend the book Case in Point for getting case experience. I believe the book is available online.

The book explains the most important frameworks plus it includes many case studies that you can practice with. I recommend practicing the cases with a friend to imitate the real interview scenario you would be in during an official case interview.

Thanks!

Max
Thank you comment icon Just found the book for free and wow this is an excellent resource thank for the recommendation! Cyon

Hi Cyon!
Adding onto Max's point, I also recommend networking on LinkedIn! Try reaching out to current consultants at some of your dream companies and asking if they'd be willing to mock case you. They usually have a lot of sample case studies internally they can share with you, and will be good to learn the case nuances between the different companies (ie. some are more math heavy, some focus more on the framework).
Good luck!
Sofia
Thank you comment icon Thank you so much for adding on to the advice I have received so far! I'll make sure to ask if I can get a mock case from the company I'm interning at. Cyon

Hi,
You should read the excellent classic book "Barbarians at the gate" - this will be a great anecdote to use in your case interview too.

Harvard Business Review also has M&A case studies.

Best,
Mudit
