Alexander’s Answer

Salary is tough to gauge as it's different from employer to employer, years of experience, location, cuisine and more. While harder for a culinary position, you can always try sites like glassdoor or bls.gov. There's a big push for salary transparency now where a lot of social media accounts are devoted to it like Salary Transparent Street on TikTok (you might be able to search by hashtag). While there's more work involved, networking with others in your industry will give you a better insight.

Hi Ryan,

It would likely range depending on a few things (type of restaurant, city, chain or single establishment), but I've found these resources to be helpful in gauging salary for specific roles in the culinary industry.

1. Entry level chef salary: $18 - $22/hr: https://www.indeed.com/career/entry-level-chef/salaries
2. Here is an article showcasing top 10% and average executive chef salaries by state: https://www.zippia.com/advice/executive-chef-salary-by-state/
3. Here is a list of current open chef jobs on Indeed, most include salary: https://www.indeed.com/jobs?q=Head+Chef
