1) The most difficult thing about working as an electrician: Well, there are many times as you are beginning a project, where there is not any power and/or the lighting hasn't been turned on. Electricians are perhaps the only people that end up in the dark sometimes...LOL. Also if you are doing a lot of power outlets, your knees can start to ache, there can also be very tight and awkward positions that you might have to work in as you are wiring up equipment and other things. On the whole, I really have enjoyed my time as an electrician. Protect your hands, find a pair of gloves that you can get used to working in. The new gloves that are neoprene are awesome for gripping wires and working in. They will save your hands, just make sure they fit you hands very well.
2) Working with management is only an issue if you don't do your job. I have worked in many companies, and usually if you do the work, they leave you alone. Plus, build good relationships with management, because as you get older you really need options that take you out of the day to day work grind and allow you to use your experience in other ways. If the management is really an issue, finding another job is the best way to handle it.
3) In my option, electrical work it the best trade to work in, because there is so much variety. You can have new experiences every day. I really like it. I was always looking for something knew to learn and get better at. There are so many options, get tired of one area of experience, take your skills and work in another area. I planned my career and job selections to allow myself a well rounded experience. I have been worker, planner, troubleshooter, and management. Key to everything is wanting to know why, and how and what else can I learn to do. Knowledge and experience is a recipe for success!!!

Hi James,
Here is an answer to your second question. To overcome obstacles working in management, take a half second to think when an issue arises so that you can give a clear answer. Always have integrity and think what is best for the individual and the team. Here are some leadership principals: 1) Provide an inspiring vision that gets people excited. 2) Lead with optimism, no matter how dire the situation may be. 3) Work collaboratively with your colleagues to develop a plan for change. 4) Take bold action and demonstrate courage. 5) Make decisions that benefit the greater good. 6) To lead better, ask more of yourself.
Best of luck!
