Hi Sruti,
After you have taken a few courses in psychology, you will have a better understanding of the diversity of sub-disciplines within our profession. I always recommend to potential students of psychology to poke around, so to speak, at the web site of the American Psychological Association (www.apa.org). In particular, to to the tab for Divisions (there are 54 of them) and read about what each Division represents/does.

Here's what I recently told another student here at Career Village about potential careers:
With a BS in psychology you cannot be a psychotherapist...that job role requires an advanced degree.

However there are many directions in which you can go such as marketing, sales, social work type positions with non-profits or government, research assistant, therapeutic support specialist (TSS) and Human Resources. Those are but a few ideas.

Well developed written and oral communication skills will help you to land a job!

I would recommend visiting the Career Counseling Office at your college or university for further discussion AND more importantly job leads.

Best of luck with your future studies and career.
