Hello! It's great that you are thinking ahead and considering what major to choose!
Urban studies and Architechture are not the same areas of study. An Urban Studies degree can prepare you for a variety of careers. Some of them are
- Community Organization
- Public Administration
- Economic Development
- Housing
- Journalism and Government
An Urban studies degree will likely include some classes in Community Organization, City Planning, Administration, Statistics, and perhaps Sociology.
If you would like to study Architecture, you'll take some classes in math and physics, architectural design, and planning.
A great resource for more information on majoring in Architecture is www.archcareers.org.
Another resource for you as you consider different majors and schools may be a college advisor or guidance counselor at your school. If you still don't know for sure what you want to major in when you go to college, that's okay, too! I spent a semester of college taking general studies courses before I selected a major. It's okay to keep your options open!

Hi Joshua,
As Emily pointed out urban planning deals more with the way cities, towns are developed with marked emphasis in the community (social) aspect. Urban planners deeply analyzed the entire infrastructure of a community.
Whereas in architecture you will learn about designing various structures and building types individually.
I also agree that the first year in college is an excellent time for you to really explore all the fields that deal with the arts and design so that you may be able to confidently chose which career path is best for you. Good luck and congratulations on your upcoming high school graduation.
