Worked in restaurants before, during, and after college. Two friends who attended culinary arts school loved it and are enjoying their careers. Like anything, you will get out of the program what you invest in it. Think about the career paths for culinary arts and see how you can learn about those paths from instructors. A culinary career can take you in many directions. Any career will be as challenging as you want to make it. Yes, we need income to support ourselves, but rather than focus on an easy or hard way of generating income, turn into your heart. It sounds like your heart may already be hinting at culinary, so why not try it? It's portable and being able to assemble good ingredients into a delicious way for getting the nutrients we need should allow you to have gainful employment for your whole life. That said, being the head chef of a popular restaurant could be one of the most challenging careers out there. Each meal, there is a window of time when everyone needs to eat - limited supply and high demand is a recipe for stress, and although rare, if ingredients are managed improperly, someone could die. You could go for Michelin stars, television promotions, and the big time, or you could run a successful neighborhood restaurant with much less stress. But first, school. Do you have a creative spark that needs expression? Is food your medium? How does your heart respond to those questions? Nothing says you can't change your mind later after you have more information and experience.

Yes this job is very hard. It is the toughest thing I have done, but I love it. I have seen people do this job for the money and it doesn't last. I do what I do because all other careers pail in comparison.
