Jake’s Answer

Hi Elijah,
You can be good at lots of things. School is certainly not for everybody, and that's ok!
Some people are better at working with their hands - art, musical instruments, or trades like being an electrician or a mechanic. All of these are critical skills that are vital to the world, and that you can build a career around. Plus, they can be very fun!
Some people have great interpersonal skills - they might pursue spending time in the hospitality world like working at a restaurant or hotel; or even learn a bit about psychology or sociology.
You can be good at being a friend or volunteering to help those in need. You can be good at caring for animals or perhaps you're really good at making sure thing stay neat and tidy!
You could be really good with computers and technology, or perhaps you have an eye for style and fashion.

I would recommend trying out a few different activities or ways of spending time and seeing if you like any of them. The world is your oyster!

William’s Answer

Hello Elijah!
You can learn a craft informally.
You learn a given career as you work (apprenticeship) and earn credit units from colleges or qualification organizations.
You can learn a trade in vocational / technical school.
You can study a degree program in colleges.

First do a career assessment process to know what will be best for you.

Kellie’s Answer

I think at school age, it can be quite difficult to think about where you see yourself in the future, or realise what you are good at - mainly because there is so much focus on education and getting good grades.

There are many people who just don't enjoy school (or formal education) for whatever reason, so don't feel that you are alone.

How do you like to spend your time when you are not in school? Think about how the things that you really enjoy and use that as a starting point, maybe try and join some clubs which link directly to your interests or hobbies, a great way of meeting other likeminded people.

Good luck!

Brandy’s Answer

Good morning,

To answer this question its simple. You can be good / great at anything. The world is your oyster and you can try anything. I will suggest to keep in mind that you can be great at anything even though you may not love it but when you are doing something you love and are passionate about, then being great at it is rewarding on a different level. I would advise you to think of what things you enjoy in life and what makes you happy.

Donnie’s Answer

Hi Elijah!

You should think about what kind of hobbies or activities you enjoy doing outside of school. If you like video games, maybe you should consider a career in game design. If you enjoy sports, maybe sports medicine is your path. Do you have a journal? Then maybe writing or a career in Journalism is for you. There are so many paths you can take. I hope you find the right one and good luck!

Robert’s Answer

Hi Elijah!

There are many things you can be good at other than school. While school/education is an important factor, it's not the end all be all. If I were you, I would try to find something that interests me. You can start off simple such as finding a hobby. From there, explore aspects you found interesting and learn all you can about it. With enough effort, passion, and time, you can eventually become good at it.

For example, if you like video games, you might look into how games are programmed. From there, you can learn a bit of programming and try to program your own game. While this sounds simple enough, you might have to put a decent number of hours and a lot of effort to eventually become good at a certain skill. However if what you are working on is your passion, it makes the learning process a lot less boring and you might have fun learning about it.

Good luck!

Orain’s Answer

Hello Elijah,

I hope all is well with you.

There are alot of things you could be good at outside of school. For example:

1. You could be good at sports
2. You could be good at hobbies such as cooking, swimming etc
3. You could be good at being a motivation to others
4. You could be a good visionary to create businesses, softwares, websites etc
4. You could good at anything you put your mind to

With all those examples, as suggested by others above, take some time to figure out what your love and passion is outside of school and you will most time be good at that.

I hope this helps.

Thanks

David’s Answer

I'm sure there are many things you are already good at or learn to be good at. Here are a couple of things to reflect on.

* What are you passionate about? What things bring you joy?
* Who are some people that you could speak with to share your passions with?

You'll want to look for ways you could turn your passions into something that could reward you in a financial way. If you see someone doing a job or has a particular career that interests you, try and connect with the person to learn more about their career. You could also visit your local library to read up on careers that might be of interest to you. If there is a particular career that you like. See if you can shadow someone at that company or spend a few minutes asking questions about what they like like about their career. The feedback you get may give you lot's of insight about what you would like to do next. Invest in yourself. If there is a certain training for something that you are interested in. Looking into how you could take part in that training.

I wish you all the success!

Valentina’s Answer

Hi Elijah!

As many folk here have mentioned, there are many things you can be good at other than school. Many people both early in their career and those further down the line changing careers find speaking to a careers advisor or asking friends and family can help.

I would advise to read or ask for further feedback from teachers or friends and then take some time to figure out what you enjoy doing.

There are also online quizzes and careers support out there on the web. Take some time to look at any helpful resources on the internet.

All the best!!

Joana’s Answer

Hi Elijah,
I love your question because it allows you to get different answers from people with different experiences.

I recommend finding something that sparks your passion and interest and look for opportunities in that field. Most professionals end up working in areas they did not graduate from; for example, I know people who started a finance career and later on opened a food business.
I also would like you to consider that school opens the door to the knowledge you need to succeed faster as an entrepreneur.

Stay curious, try new things, and don't be afraid to rethink your decisions. Eventually, you'll find that you are great at various things; you need to keep an open mind.

Here's an article that might help: https://www.indeed.com/career-advice/career-development/how-to-find-what-you're-good-at

Good luck in your search, and I wish you the best!
