It's been my experience that great mechanics love to teach.
Your best bet will be an apprenticeship or internship in the industry you want to focus on. Find a mentor you can work under and build your skills in the context of real work.
Find people in a community who focus on your specific industry of choice. Follow them, support them, and reach out to them. The connections you make today will likely last your lifetime. Do some research online to find out where there might be a convention of interest and make a point to go and make connections. for example - https://www.conexpoconagg.com/
It never hurts to visit local shops that pique your interest and interview the principal mechanics on staff. Often times you will get to meet the owner and discuss the ins and outs of their specific industry.

Check to see if your high school offers a regional occupational program for automotive technicians. Then start researching local community college automotive programs. Many are accredited with ASE and you can earn time towards an ASE certification, which is an in-demand credential to have as an auto mechanic.
