Why are counselors important when it comes to mental health?

My dream career is to be a mental health counselor. Mental health counselors talk to a patient and get to know the person, they do this so they can give advice or feedback that relates more to the patient and their struggles. Speaking from personal experience I have found that counseling does work when you let it and find the right person for you. Once you find the right counselor it's easier for you to talk about things and easier for you to start working on yourself and your struggles. I did counseling for 3 years straight and switched through a bunch of medications until I finally let counseling help me and started taking the things my counselor told me to heart, he told me to start finding things I enjoyed and using them as a release for my darkness that I battle with, and I'm proud to say I have done these things and I'm doing better than I have been in a long time.

Mental health counselors can save lives.

Greetings Mikayla, I wish you peace love,Joy and happiness.
I believe in God as my source of strength.
If you understand these principles we operate under God's principles. Our inner being is searching to find out our emptiness.
We counselors, try to em-partake of empathy and understanding of sharing pain. It's easier to talk with other's even though they are complete strangers, but need someone to listen to our issues. trying to have a sincere conversation without being judge. God does this if we seek His guidance for hope. it is the mind set of what is deeply missing from not forgiving ourselves for what ever reasons. Blame or being (human) in a spiritual world there will always be conflict.
To understand a mind set is thru therapy and talk out what is at the core of the problem issues. being a counselor is being invested in another person to help guide confusing thoughts. But not all counselors are suited for every person. It is always advise to find confidence in what the counselor is able to understand in how to allow the person to come up with their own solutions to their problems because they already have the answers but just have to take the steps to help themselves. Becoming self aware is the first step in understanding the problem. If I may continue to journal and understand by reading it later in a few days and review your thoughts. I believe you will become a great counselor, because you have been where others have been or are going. To understand the mind nobody knows because thoughts change and have the ability to control or refuse to be controlled. So to make the attempt to understand others is a true calling. It will take dedication and resilience, because you will be tried and tested daily. So for us counselors we need counselors ourselves. I choose God to be mine because He's perfect. But most people don't believe, but isn't that the ultimate question? Do we believe in ourselves only ? Or do we reach out and try to comfort others while they are in pain. Counseling allows a way for people to reach out in their pain for help, and it's up to the counselor for guidance. God says, be of good cheer there is always hope.

Mikayla,

I'm glad you've had a great outcome from mental health counselling. I think you may have answered your question better than anyone else could 🙂 I was a registered mental health counsellor in Australia before studying medicine to become a PA in the US. I would support the role of mental health counselling in helping a person make sense of the world, because the world can be tricky to navigate. Let me know if you have any specific questions for me.

I hope your dream career comes true.

Hwal

Therapy/counseling is a wonderful resource, especially in today's society with social media on the rise. We have some of the highest suicide and depression rates we have ever seen. Better access to mental health services can help to greatly reduce those numbers, especially amongst our youth. I myself use a therapist and have for 3 years. It has been extremely beneficial not just for myself, but for my family as well. I find that truthfully, everyone could use a therapist. Sometimes we have things we need to work through that we cant always effectively communicate to those we are close to and having an unbiased party to speak to allows you to really work through those challenges and speak to what youre really experiencing on an emotional level.
