Giselle’s Answer

Hi Kimberly,

I would first ask, what fields interest you? Knowing that I was interested in Accounting/Finance, I sought an internship with a company in my district that focused on inventory accounting. The internship provided me with hands on experience that allowed me to continue pursuing the career path I was on. Wishing you all the best.

Kylyn’s Answer

Hi,

I found as a high schooler that it was difficult to find an internship and most places don't create internships "for" high school level. I had a program at my high school where I could leave the second half of the day if I had an internship to attend, so I was more interested in getting job experience than be in classes I did not need. To get an internship I took my resume to small business and would speak with the owner or manager and explain why I am interested and I would ask if they were interested in giving me an opportunity to work as an intern. I received an internship at a local non-profit.

I will also mention that it is good to reach out to any professionals you know in your network to ask for opportunities. This could be your parents friends or someone you met in a field you are interested in. It can be intimidating to put yourself in the position to be rejected, but it is great to put yourself out there for something you are interested in! I would suggest local businesses for a high school internship overall.

You can start internships at the beginning of your freshman year in High School. However think about doing more in your senior year would could potentially lead to a job while in college.

Pramod’s Answer

Hi Kimberly

It depends on your interests and what you want to pursue your career in. Once you figure that out, reach out to people you know who might be working in the same industry and seek internships, search online, newspaper ads etc. Internships will help lay a solid foundation and also equip you with real experiences. Best of luck!!
