Natalie’s Answer

Hi Anderson!

Great question- it is always a great time to start looking for a career. I always like to remind myself that a career doesn't have to last forever. You're able to change jobs and job search at any time that you would like.

Tanique’s Answer

Hi Anderson,

Now is the best time to start looking into career options.

Career preparation is an ongoing process, so if you haven't started looking at what you are good at and what you would like to do, I suggest that you sit and write out the industries that would benefit from your skills.

Then start researching these industries and the type of companies in these industries and see which career path would suit you.

Jacob’s Answer

Hi Anderson, in my opinion, it is never too early! You may learn things throughout your life that spark interest in different careers, and you probably have interests in certain subjects that would relate to certain careers. In high school you may start thinking about what to major in if you go to college, and in college you will likely start to feel more strongly about what you want to do in your future career. I think it is important to think about all options, do research on multiple careers that interest, and don't worry about it being too early, if you have a change of heart, it would be good to have already thought about multiple career options. If you figure out what you want to do early on, you can find a major in college that would best prepare you for a career in those field. However, I do know plenty of people who majored in one field, and then chose a totally different one for their career, so just know that the choices you make now won't completely determine your future.

Tareque’s Answer

Hey Anderson,

It would be excellent if you could start right away. Because the job market is always changing, your first career may not be the one you stick with forever. Since choosing a job is not always easy, it's crucial to discover something that resonates with you personally.

There are several professional alternatives, therefore it's important to consider your options. Don't restrict yourself to one path. You should evaluate yourself and identify your areas of passion. The key word here is YOU. Prioritize your interests and hobbies over what other people might be expecting of you. Think beyond the box as well. Is there something you genuinely like doing but which isn't currently a professional path? You'd be surprised at how regularly a new profession is developed in response to the demands of any given industry.

Elizabeth (Betsy)’s Answer

Anderson,

Consider viewing a career as a collection of activities you enjoy doing. For instance, if you loved constructing things with Legos as a child, spent your free time building, or devised plans for creating objects, these are all skills you find enjoyable. By pursuing architecture or engineering in college, you can equip yourself to utilize these skills on a grander scale upon graduation. You might become an architect designing buildings, an engineer repairing bridges and roads, or a designer inventing new products and technologies. There are numerous ways to apply the same skill set.

As we age, we constantly evolve, which means our interests and priorities shift as well. It's crucial to acknowledge that in 20 or 30 years, you might desire a change in location or industry. By thinking broadly about the skills you want to employ, it becomes easier to see the flexibility in transitioning to various jobs where you can continue honing those skills. This approach empowers you to create a career centered around activities you enjoy, reducing the likelihood of feeling stuck in an unsatisfying situation.

Brandy’s Answer

Everyone has provided great insights into this topic. I agree heavily with Natalie in her statement of " a career doesn't have to last forever". I've thought of taking several paths in life and never thought that I would have ended up where I did but in the end, I uncovered talents and passions that I had not ever considered at my younger age. Anytime is a good time to think of your career path but as someone else mentioned, thinking about what you are good at or passionate about in your life may help you to decide on the best path to start.
