David’s Answer
Management positions tend to come after some years experience in the environment in which you choose to work. How many years? It depends on your own career focus, the opportunities you encounter, the company or companies you work with, and lots of other factors. As in the previous advice, I'd suggest to take a standard route into an entry level IT job (college -> internship -> grad position...) then look for the opportunities that present themselves to move towards management. Also make it known to your supervisors what your career plans are... they'll probably be managers, and good managers will be amazingly helpful to you whatever your plans are.
David, thank you!

I agree management positions in Computer & Information Systems Management come after several years of experience in the environment in which you work. As stated in previous posts. I would suggest that you work at a competency level above what you are being paid. I would suggest that you volunteer for assignments above your pay grade, and take on more responsibilities. The cream of the crop rises to the top of the food chain. Ensure you have the credentials, certifications, and degrees others have in similar management jobs across your organization. Enhance your academic background to increase your knowledge, increase your marketability, and improve your reputation above your peers to get the job done. Find mentors within your organization that will help you identify your weaknesses and help you overcome them, champion your background, and promote you going forward. Managers will be glad to help you along the way and provide you with opportunities to excel. Good luck and separate yourself from the crowd with a thirst for knowing what it takes to do your boss’s job and your boss’s boss’s job.
