How do I get into a high ranking college?
my scores in academics aren't that...good. I have around 2Bs and 2Cs in my A levels and I want to ensure that I can still get into a few top-tiered colleges. In what ways can I build my portfolio so I can get in without much of a focus on my 'lack of academic performance'?

If you are looking for top business college, then start preparing for CAT well in advance. After clearing CAT, colleges will look into extracurricular activities.
For top engineering college you need to check for JEE exam. If you are looking to pursue in abroad then check for IELTS & GMAT.
For post graduation engineering college, you can check for GATE.
Apart from above list, all private universities has their own entrance exam every year.

Your grades could have an affect but if your getting A's in your classes which relate to what you want to major in then it could be helpful. Also when your ready for applying writing a great cover letter is always helpful.
I appreciate this, thank you for the advice.

Are you looking for a university in India or outside of India? Universities in US generally look at all-rounded profile i.e. academics, community giving, extracurricular activities, research and many more. So, if have spent time in your high school contributing your time to other activities apart from academics, then profile building gets easier. Most Ivy leagues and ranked universities give 40% weightage to academics and 60% to non-academics. Start your thinking on this to start your search.

I think more than just grades, colleges look at how well-rounded a student is. I would try adding a good number of volunteer hours, and other extra curricular activities into the mix. Some examples of this could be sports, participating in clubs, and gaining LEADERSHIP EXPERIENCE!
Goodluck!

Colleges specially Ivy League will be looking at extra curricular work. Some good spaces to volunteer at is at Cancer societies, try moving into a co- chair position in any part of a volunteer based organization- I have done Cancer- AIDS- anti bully campaigns- Red Cross- try volunteering at first and move up to a leader role! On top of improving your grades and achieving any volunteering leadership roles will help! Best of luck
Thank you so much, Edison!
