Hi Shawn,
Carpentry is a skill trade. Technique, education and training can be obtained via a technical or trade school; mentorship or apprenticeship and on the job training. Carpentry certifications can be earned via OSHA Safety Certificate (OSHA), EPA Amusement Operators Safety Certification (EPA) and Certified Lead Carpenter (CLC). There is also the Architectural Woodworking Institute's Quality Certification Program (AWI-QCP). The AWI-QCP provides licenses to architectural woodworking professionals.
It will be to your advantage to research the carpentry schools in your local area. In pursuing your skill trade as a carpenter, it is best to check the school for accreditation, strength of program, feedback from current students and alumni, financial assistance and career placement upon graduation. Remember, this is your investment for your career as a carpenter.
