Getting on the job training in very valuable especially today with the shortage of skilled workers. Being an apprentice will give you a jump start on your competition for the same job. Don’t ever give up the opportunity to get first hand on the job training. It will pay off.

This is very best approach to enter the trade and become a licensed electrician. An apprentice receives real work experience all the while learning the trade from a certified electrician. I would encourage you to reach out to your local electrician's union on the process to apply and join. The union will set you on the course as an apprentice, and provide classroom training. The timeframe will be set by the union. Best of luck on your endevour.

I took an apprenticeship in networking, and let me tell you that the experience and exposure catapulted my career above and beyond that of my co-workers. Electrical work can be dangerous. Having a good, solid, fundamental foundation will not only keep you safe, but will help root your understanding to explore a career past just the craft. I advise you to take an apprenticeship, and learn all you can.
