Hello there! You can be involved with a police department pretty early on. Tons of departments have a program called "Explorers." This program is specifically designed for young enthusiasts such as yourself to become more familiar with the career field of law enforcement. Not every department will have this, so try and find a larger police department close to where you live.

Hi Edwin,
I have heard of people that are interested in becoming a police officer to shadow an officer for sometime. There might be an age limit on who can participate, so you will have to ask that closest police department what the age is. You could also search online for current affairs and follow the cases you come across about police officers. You could also go to a police dept and ask them questions as they are always there to help.

Hilary’s Answer

When you can ask your parents for permission to call your local department. Once you have called, ask them for any career day events or any special events they have so that people who show an interest in law enforcement may attend. Another route you can take is to ask your counselor at school to see if they know any way you can meet with a police officer and see what it is like to a police officer.
