Emmanuel’s Answer

It takes quite a while to convince the world on adopting new or seemingly hard-to-understand technology. Nuclear energy is one of the old energy technology however it poses so many risks and requires a high amount of input to get more output. Some examples are nuclear fission. You need to heat up the element to split. That being said, nuclear energy relies heavily on other sources to start. One thing we know for sure, the energy industry is highly regulated politically. My answer to your question would be, yes it is possible nuclear energy is going to be a big market in the future. It is being used in most countries including France and USA and it is just a matter of time until the world starts to rely heavily on nuclear energy.

Roberto’s Answer

The answer is a YES. The "how", however, can be different than what it looks like today. The "old" way of doing things with Fission still has a long life ahead of it. Then, there is Fusion holding big promises for the future.

If your question is instead about your interest in Nuclear Physics or Physics in general, I can tell you that yes there is a big far future there beyond the energy question. Physics is hard but rewarding to the curious mind and for those without fear to Math and long hours of study.

Good luck !!!

Kessler’s Answer

I am not qualified to tell you whether nuclear energy is the future or not, but my personal opinion is that it will become more widely adopted in the future. If you are interested in nuclear engineering or computer modeling then you could pursue a career in those or related fields. Even if most of the energy produced is still from other sources in the future, there are lots of research areas that you could make a career out of. You may also be interested in electrical engineering with a focus in power.

Best of luck!

Kessler recommends the following next steps:

Look into computational modeling for fusion/fission.
Learn about Artificial Intelligence (AI). AI is being used in various computer-dependent fields such as reaction modeling.
Look into space-related uses for nuclear energy.

Michael’s Answer

The nuclear energy industry is undergoing a transformation with new smaller, more effective, safer designs in the fission sector; but nuclear fusion is definitely on the horizon (although that's been said for 40+ years lol).

Nuclear engineering is a very challenging field but one that is likely to be very fruitful. Despite the fear factor, fission is quite safe with modern engineering. If you have the STEM skills for it, go for it!
