Christine’s Answer

It depends on what path you want to take in either of those career fields. In my opinion, for medical, the most rewarding jobs if you like patient contact are nursing in any area of medical. You have the most direct contact with patients in this profession and gain the most knowledge. If you prefer to be more in the administration or tech fields, you can explore medical administration and billing and coding. Great money as well as not as much patient contact but still enough if you desire it. Engineering is a very broad career path so it would depend on where you felt most fulfilled as to where to make the most money. If you are into technology, I would suggest telecommunications or computer science careers. If you are more into the hands on I would explore construction and electrical career paths.

Hope this helps!

Hi, Jade!

This is a great question. There are plenty of very stable careers with high earning potential outside of becoming an MD or an engineer. US News has a helpful list of the stable jobs if you want to look there.

Good medical jobs outside of being an MD include: nurse, nurse anesthetist, occupational therapy, speech therapy, physical therapy, health service manager

Good jobs outside of healthcare include: financial analyst, data scientist, computer systems analyst, management analyst, logistician, market researcher, lawyer, web developer, IT management, information security, software developer.

Mark’s Answer

A field that is very rewarding is Substance Abuse Counseling. To change lives for the better is a great way to not only help others but also help yourself. There are not many LAC, LMAC, LCAC out there. The burn out rate is high. Few understand addiction, other than those already addicted or touched by, so to help them is also helping the helper to have a better understanding of what it's truly like.

Corey’s Answer

If you earn an engineering degree, that diploma is a great key for many career doors. The main thing you learn to do in your schooling is to solve problems, often with limited information. Problem solving skills are valuable in many careers and make you valuable in the marketplace.
