Hello Angel,
Steve's response is superb, mainly because California is quite efficient at keeping their licensing requirements up-to-date on their website. A good number of people, though not everyone, begin with the basic unarmed security courses, which pave the way to obtaining an unarmed security license. In California, as in many other states, the firearms qualifications are additional to the basic certification. If you're eyeing a job in a company that handles cash transfers from ATMs and banks, you'll definitely need this extra endorsement. Another thing to keep in mind is if you plan to relocate, or if your job might require you to cross state borders. The requirements to practice in different states can vary significantly. It's also worth noting that not all states will recognize a certification obtained from another state.

Hi Angel,
It's best if you review the the California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services site https://www.bsis.ca.gov/industries/guard.shtml for all the specifics to obtaining a guard license, firearm permits, etc. You can also email them (email is at the top of the site's page) for any additional Security Guard licensing questions you may have.

Angel,
Your safest bet is to contact your local sheriff office. Since carrying a gun can be a felony, you want official information, not what we believe to be true. I am registered for gun ownership and I appreciate that you respect the importance of doing this right.

Thanks for the advice.
