Every career path varies based on the specific role, duties, and rank within a company. Working directly with operations, such as an operator, engineer, or manager, may require more commitment and onsite presence. However, roles in support functions, which assist operations, may offer more flexibility. Remember, as you advance in your career, the expectations will change too.
In the early stages of my career as an operations engineer, I spent a lot of time in manufacturing plants, absorbing everything I could. This hands-on experience was invaluable, and I wouldn't change it for anything. Now, as a consultant, I have more responsibilities but also more flexibility, thanks to the knowledge I gained in my early years.
I encourage you to consider your interests, learn how to master them, and explore the variety of jobs available. Consider whether these roles offer any flexibility. Be aware, though, that this industry is quite challenging and fast-moving, but it's also incredibly enjoyable and rewarding!
