How do I start getting vet tech experience when they often require prior experience to hire you?

I have been struggling to discover an internship or a facility that will hire me as most of the vet tech assistant jobs often require prior experience. How am I supposed to get the 'prior experience' necessary to be accepted in these jobs if I've never had one?

I am very fortunate to have pretty basic medical handling skills and abilities, such as proper restraint, muzzling, intramuscular injection, medicating orally, taking and interpreting vital science, and taking and reading fecal samples. I have also assisted in the birth of livestock, monitored pregnancy in a mare, and have worked as an animal shelter technician for more than a year.

Isabel,
If you have not already, create a resume with all of the things you have learned and where you did them. Make certain you have your volunteering at the animal shelter on your resume. And it would be help with any and all references that have seen you doing all of the experiences that you have listed. Don't give up when you are not accepted for any jobs you apply for; most everyone that starts out applying for jobs takes dozens of times before getting the one that they really want. Be persistent in applying and keep doing as much volunteer work that you can to build up your resume.

It’s applicable in most jobs/spaces : you have to VOLUNTEER. Make enquiries and see if you can volunteer. A lot of places will oblige . Write a great cover letter and let them see the passion in you .
Thank you comment icon Thank you! I have done a lot of volunteer & internship work; for every application, I also inquire if there is a volunteer or intern opportunity at their facility. It just seems like there's no breakthrough for it. Isabel
Thank you comment icon One more thing , what are the prerequisites to becoming a vet tech? If you volunteer to see what nurses do , you might be required to be in a nursing school or a sort of training related to that , by extension, do you have the minimal qualifications to be in the environment to take care of animals? Thank you comment icon Look at colleges such as UC Davis that has a veterinary program. Look at the classes offered to be a vet tech. That will give you an idea of what skill set is needed Sue Lemus
