Hi, Milo,
Try to write a personalized cover letter for every position you apply to that emphasizes why you are interested in working for their company and also touches on why you have a gap in your resume and why you're looking to go back to work now.
As for the rest of the content, you can list your previous job, educational background, and any extracurriculars (if you are school or college age), especially if you had a leadership role or other responsibilities for those extracurriculars. Something else you can do is focus on transferable skills and key words. Transferable skills should be listed first and can include proficiency in certain computer programs, management, language and communication skills, technology skills, etc.

Hey there! I'm really sorry to hear that you had to leave your job due to transportation issues and mistreatment. It can be a bit tough to create a resume with just one previous job, but don't worry, there are still plenty of ways to show off your skills and experience. Let me share some tips with you:
1. Focus on transferable skills: Even if your time at your previous job was brief, you surely picked up some valuable skills that you can use in other jobs. Think about tasks like customer service, organization, and problem-solving – make sure to highlight these on your resume.
2. Emphasize achievements: Were there any standout accomplishments during your time at your former job, such as hitting sales goals or resolving a tricky issue? Don't forget to spotlight these achievements on your resume!
3. Include relevant coursework or certifications: If you have any relevant coursework or certifications under your belt, be sure to add these to your resume. This can demonstrate that you possess extra knowledge and skills that potential employers might find valuable.
Make sure to emphasize the skills and experiences that are most relevant to the position you're applying for. Best of luck, and I know you'll do great! 😊

Hey Milo, always remember that "sometimes it's who you know and not what you know." This highlights the importance of connecting with people who share your interests or career goals. Don't worry, it gets easier as you go along! Make it a point to network and reach out to others.
Even though you have only one job on your resume that lasted a month, don't let it bring you down. Remember, every journey begins with a single step, and we all learn to crawl before we can walk. To help boost your chances, create a cover letter that showcases your other achievements, like school projects, volunteer work, or any instance when you made a significant impact. This will highlight your dedication to improvement and your seriousness about any job role, big or small.
Make sure to tailor your resume to the job you're applying for by including relevant skills. If you don't possess a specific skill, express your enthusiasm to learn and grow. Stay positive, Milo! We all start somewhere, and no one is born knowing everything. It's all about gaining experience and learning as you go along.
Keep your chin up and best of luck on your journey!

Hey Milo,
I'm sorry to hear that you had a difficult experience at your former job and have been struggling to find work since then. I understand how hard that can be.
The above answers have a lot of good advice and I hope you find them helpful. The only thing I'd like to add is that even if you only worked for a month, try to identify any specific accomplishments or contributions you made during that time. For example, did you help resolve a difficult customer issue, or streamline a process that saved time or money? Including these achievements on your resume can help demonstrate your value to potential employers.
When including these achievements, make sure to structure them using the PAR (Problem, Action, Result) principle. The PAR principle encourages you to describe a specific problem or challenge you faced, the action you took to address it, and the result or outcome of your actions. For example, instead of saying "Managed a team of 10 people," you could say "Increased team productivity by 25% by effectively managing a team of 10 people, resulting in the timely completion of multiple projects." This structure draws attention to your achievements and helps the reader understand the value you can bring to their organization.
Additionally, also remember, your resume is just one part of your job search. Networking, reaching out to potential employers, and preparing for interviews are also important steps in finding your next job. Don't be discouraged by your lack of work experience - focus on your strengths and keep working towards your goals.
All the best and I am sure you'll find something soon.

Hi Milo! Thanks for reaching out to us with your question. It's fantastic to see someone eager to start their career journey! It's very common for young people to wonder about their chances of finding a job without previous work experience. But the good news is that everyone starts somewhere, and there are plenty of ways to overcome this challenge.
First, it's important to recognize your strengths and focus on presenting yourself well during interviews. Your enthusiasm, willingness to learn and adapt, and eagerness to contribute to the workplace can all set you apart from others. While you might not have formal work experience, a solid one-page resume detailing your education, skills, and relevant accomplishments can show your potential to employers.
In the meantime, make the most of the opportunities available to gain experience and build your resume. You can seek part-time jobs, volunteer roles, or even engage in community projects that can highlight your dedication and work ethic. This hands-on experience can be extremely valuable when it comes to demonstrating your capabilities and improving your resume.
So stay positive, be prepared for interviews, and trust that your hard work and effort will pay off. Keep learning, growing, and putting yourself out there, and you'll soon find the right job fit for you! Best of luck in your job search journey, Milo!

Hi Milo,
To add to what others are saying - I think it's important for you to build your resume in terms of skills and even certifications. Depending on your field, there are a lot of free programs, courses, workshops or on demand content you can leverage. Pro bono work is also an option, even if it's part-time engagement.
It is also very important to become active on LinkedIn - there are a lot of opportunities there, and you might get the chance to interact with the right person.
Best,

Search for relevant free courses
Do pro bono work
