Although I have never been an undercover officer myself, I have some been exposed to both the positives and negatives of being one.
Positives --
You're always going to be challenged with new situations and new people all the time. You will develop great relationships with your peers as you will have to trust them with your life. The job will be rewarding as you're tasked to help resolve societal issues, get criminals off the streets, etc. The benefits of the job are good.
Negatives --
Your social life will be greatly affected. You will need to keep off of social media, keep friends and family at a distance, and keep a low profile overall. You never know if the people you put behind bars will be looking for ways to get to you (either through your family/friends/acquaintances). You always have to look over your shoulders. Psychologically, it will impact you as you're always exposed to the downsides of society (robberies, murders, assaults, etc).
These are things that you will have to weigh to determine if it's the right career path. It can be very rewarding provided it is your passion.
