HELLO! My name is Jasmine and I am a current high school student. I'm conducting an interview with any professional in the Dietitian for a Foundations in Health Science Class project about careers! Very glad you had chosen a dietitian field!
What profession did you choose? Why?
I chose to become a Long term care dietitian in order to help those in my hospital slowly but surely!
How many years of college did you need to go through?
I went to CSU Fresno for 4 years and graduated with a Bachelor of Science in Nutrition & Dietetics.
What jobs did you work on before you landed your present professional job?
I didn’t have any job related to this career field before working as an official long-term care dietitian.
How can I decide if I should earn a Ph.D. in this field?
You don’t need a Ph.D. into becoming a dietitian but you should always work your hardest and push your education further and maybe even become something further in the medical field.
Were you in a college program?
After I got my Bachelor of Science in Nutrition & Dietetics I was able to apply for my master's/ internship program. After applying I was able to take my exam into becoming an official RD (Registered Dietitian)
Did you have to pivot and go back to school at a later date?
Nope!
Did you shadow another professional in the field?
No.
Did you join any school clubs related to your current profession?
My school didn’t have any clubs related to dietitians or nutrition.
Was there a particular subject you struggled with during your school years?
I struggled in Clinical Nutrition was a little challenging though I was able to push through and start to understand.
What skill sets did you learn or gain while pursuing your career?

What kept you motivated in your studies to pursue your career?
My passion for helping those in need of help with proper nutrition long term. It’s important to me for them to get their fullest recovery over a long period of time.
How do you manage your work/study time with your career?
I personally have good time management skills in general so this was never an issue.
What was the thing that made you see that being a dietitian was your “calling”?
My family relatives have a history of bad health. I lost my favorite aunt and close friend to cancer from poor eating habits. It was a hard time in my life but I was able to take that moment and take it and make it my passion.

I haven't had the opportunity to shadow a professional in the dietitian field, but I've heard that it can be an enlightening experience.

Joining clubs related to one's profession can definitely be beneficial.

Dietitians may learn skills such as effective communication, critical thinking, and problem-solving.

Individuals pursuing a career in dietetics may be motivated by a desire to help others improve their health and well-being.

However, people pursuing careers in any field need to manage their time effectively to succeed.

Individuals may be drawn to the field of dietetics because of a passion for nutrition and helping others.
