2. How many years of college did you need to go through? I personally went to college for 4 years to earn my bachelor’s degree in health science.
3. What jobs did you work before you landed your present professional job?
I worked at a clinic for a year and 4 months.
4. How can I decide if I should earn a PH.D in this career?
I would say a PH.D is not necessary because all you really need is training certificate and a bachelor’s degree in a medical field.
5. Were you in a college program?
Yes, I went to the University of Chicago and I joined the Department of Surgery.
6. Did you have to and go back to school at a later date?
After college I decided to attend an accredited program here is Chicago which took me two years to earn my certificate.
7. Did you shadow any professional in this field? Yes, like I said two of my family members are surgical assistants and they have taught me some qualities and techniques that are important for this career!
8. Did you join any any school clubs related to your current professional?
No, I didn’t have any good programs at my high school that would have helped me in this career. Until I got to college I attended the Department of Surgery program.
9. Was there a particular subject you struggled with during your school years?
Luckily no! I have always had support from my family members who were surgical assistants.
10. What skill sets did you learn or gain while perusing your career?
Some important skills I gained while perusing my career in surgical assisting are good communication, listening skills, and stress management skills. Besides that some important qualities are have dexterity, integrity, and physical stamina.
11. What type of people do you work with?
I work with surgeons, anesthesiologist, and nurses.
12. What are the benefits you receive working as a surgical assistant?
I receive health insurance, life insurance, dental insurance, and long-term disability insurance.
13. What is the work environment like working as a surgical assistant?
I would say that we are always busy. When you are in the operating room you have to be standing for a long time I would say about 3 hours. Before entering the operating room you do have to wear scrubs and sterile gown, wear gloves,caps, and masks for safety.
