I perform, direct, and produce while teaching and coaching theater/music theater for Industry auditions and admission to top dramatic colleges and universities here in the U.S. and U.K. If acting is your passion (essential in this highly competitive field), you will need to have strong social intelligence and storytelling skills to convey fully realized film and stage characters. Be prepared to pay some dues. You must be willing to lean in and fail for your art. Sublimate your ego but don't let anyone with casting power compromise your humanity. Most of the greats, such as Dames Judy & Maggie, Rami Malek, Meryl Streep, Eddie Redmayne, Tom Hanks, etc., did Repertory and studied technique/craft and the classics in college. Attend lots of good theater and read literature. Consistently good actors have well-rounded intelligence and skill sets. Be inspired by an understanding of culture and history; use the study/attendance of other art forms to inspire you (opera, ballet, visual art, architecture, all forms of music). You will be surprised how some will open your mind and become a favorite.
Most importantly, develop good coaches willing to be honest in your understanding of yourself, your craft, and your potential. Acting is not for the faint of heart... only do it because you love the human interconnectivity of it. I wish you well, and break a leg!

This is advice is both intelligent and comprehensive. Definitely worthy of a "vote up" !

You have a lot of options. You can go for content creation, join theatres (best), try to build your connections there. Learn realtime skills and use social media for showing your talent.
Hope it helps.

Hello:
Stage32.com - a platform that welcomes connections that can be made from all over the Earth through a free site. There are educational classes, paid and some not paid, and other aspects like networking that you can utilize.
This weekend, I think, would be an introduce yourself weekend. So, getting on the platform, and introducing yourself and networking with others would be a first step into interacting with other individuals in the entertainment sector.
Two organizations that you could work/volunteer into (if accepted work wise):
https://www.theatrecr.org/work-at-tcr-2/
https://www.easterniowaartsacademy.org/
Welcomes the discussions, networking, and resume building that could beneficially guide you into various pathways.
Gratitude into your steps.
God Bless,
John German

Hello Jaliyah,
Starting an Acting Career Outside of LA
Starting an acting career outside of Los Angeles is definitely possible, although it may require some extra effort and creativity. Here are some steps you can take to kickstart your acting career even if you don’t live in a major entertainment hub like LA:
1. Build Your Skills Locally: Look for local acting classes, workshops, and community theater groups in Cedar Rapids or nearby areas. Building a strong foundation in acting skills is crucial for any aspiring actor.
2. Create an Online Presence: In today’s digital age, having a strong online presence can help you showcase your talent to a wider audience. Consider creating a professional website or social media profiles where you can share your acting experience, headshots, and demo reels.
3. Attend Acting Workshops and Conventions: While you may not have direct connections in the industry, attending acting workshops, seminars, and conventions can be a great way to network with other actors, casting directors, and industry professionals. Look for events happening in nearby cities or even consider traveling to larger events if possible.
4. Submit to Online Casting Platforms: There are several online casting platforms where you can create a profile, upload your headshots and resume, and apply for acting opportunities. Some popular platforms include Backstage, Casting Networks, and Actors Access.
5. Collaborate with Local Filmmakers: Reach out to local filmmakers, student directors, or independent production companies in Cedar Rapids who may be looking for actors for their projects. Building relationships with filmmakers can lead to valuable on-screen experience and networking opportunities.
6. Consider Moving to a Larger Market: While it’s possible to start an acting career outside of LA, eventually you may need to consider moving to a larger market like Los Angeles or New York if you’re serious about pursuing acting as a full-time career. Keep honing your craft locally while also exploring opportunities in bigger entertainment hubs.
Remember that breaking into the acting industry takes time, dedication, and perseverance. Stay focused on improving your skills, building connections, and seizing opportunities as they come your way.
Top 3 Authoritative Sources Used:
Backstage: Backstage is a reputable online platform for actors that provides casting calls, industry news, acting tips, and resources for performers at all levels. It is widely recognized in the entertainment industry for connecting actors with casting opportunities.
Actors Access: Actors Access is another trusted online casting platform used by actors to submit themselves for auditions, access breakdowns from casting directors, and manage their professional profiles. It is a valuable resource for actors seeking audition opportunities.
Local Acting Workshops and Community Theaters: Local acting workshops and community theaters in Cedar Rapids or nearby areas can provide valuable training opportunities and connections within the local acting community. Engaging with these resources can help aspiring actors build their skills and network with industry professionals on a smaller scale before pursuing larger markets like LA.
GOD BLESS!
James.
