What are three important things I should know about diving before I pursue it as a career?

I was wondering If anyone could provide further information about Diving? Thank you for the help

Thank you comment icon An exciting and physically demanding career. I'm no expert personally though as a vacation diver I've met some serious diving experts who are called in for deep sea repairwork etc. How about finding some people on the internet who excel in this field and follow them online to read their blogs etc - there is a wealth of info on dive specific forums and in the websites of companies who provide divers for specialist work. Good luck with your diving journey! Sophie Clissold-Lesser

Hi Landon,
It depends on what type of diver you want to be and what you like about diving. You could be a scuba diver, offshore diver, or search and rescue diver. If you like science too, you could be a marine biologist or environmental researcher. This way you can use diving as a way to learn about animals or plant life under water. Even civil engineers can be divers if they build structures under water.

If you simply like the idea of diving but don’t have to do the diving yourself, you can be a scuba diver instructor, part of an offshore boat crew, or start a diving shop business selling diving supplies. If you want to make diving a career, you should get involved with divers groups. You’ll have to search online for these groups and get into contact with them. They can tell you everything you need to know about how to make diving a career. You can even go to a scuba diving shop and ask the workers if they know of any diving customers that could mentor you. If you are in high school, try asking your P.E. or swim teacher if they have any information about divers groups to get involved with.

Becoming a professional diver will probably require you to take courses in diving at special schools or through special organizations. If you want to go to college, you can pursue a science degree like marine biology or environmental science. During college, you can get involved with the diving community and continue training/swimming. Once you finish college, there may be a variety of diving opportunities that come your way. Good luck! Sounds exciting.
